Di relocated to the city of Bristol, UK to pursue a dream of playing Clifton Suspension Bridge by Isambard Kingdom Brunel like a giant harp.
Commission
For the 150th anniversary of Bristol’s legendary Clifton Suspension Bridge, Human Harp decided to celebrate this milestone by creating a musical device that can #PlayTheBridge like a giant harp-piano. Designed by civil engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Clifton Suspension Bridge spans the Avon Gorge and the River Avon England.
Film
Di relocated to Bristol’s Pervasive Media Studio to co-create the new Human Harp with local creatives. She collaborated with students from the University of the West of England, Arup engineers, electrical engineer Seb Madgwick, documentarian Jesse Lawrence, and film producers Linn Waite & Kate Byers from Early Day films.
Back in London, Di worked with technical producer Becky Stewart and musician and audio coder Adam Stark to create new software to make the Human Harp more musically versatile. David Ross, industrial designer, also created new housing for the improved technology.
