Chapter 3: Rise Up!

A series of guerrilla stunts and short films inspired by the suffragettes.

This episode of D.N.W. was commissioned and funded by musician Bishi, founder of WITCiH Festival.   Conceived by Di and musician Mandy Wigby in to express their gratitude to the women past and present, from around the world who have risked everything for equality. Rise-Up Women! Deeds Not Words.

Film

Chapter 3 in the D.N.W. film series sees the rebirth of the brilliant and imaginative suffragette Emily Wilding Davison. In this episode, Emily’s spirit is locked in the broom cupboard beneath the Houses of Parliament only to be released by a mysterious admirer of her work. Unleashed into the 21st Century, Emily calls the women of the world to rise-up!

We were clear that we did not want to regurgitate stories of the suffragettes through traditional historic reenactments but instead to explore the subject in a more abstract way, through stunts and films, incorporating experimental music, costumes and props.
