A series of guerrilla stunts and short films inspired by the suffragettes.
Commission
As part of the Vote 100 Centenary celebrations in 2018, Di and musician-producer Mandy Wigby founded D.N.W. (Deeds.Not.Words) as a way to celebrate the stories of the Suffragettes through a 21st Century lens. Di and Mandy created a series of four guerrilla art films (chapters). All four chapters connect to form a whole story, bringing moments in Suffragette history into the modern day. Supported by WITCiH, Arts Council of England, British Council, BFI.
Film
Using experimental music, props and costumes D.N.W. explores a range of themes including: postbox bombing, March 4 Women, Emily Wilding Davison, Tony Benn and the Suffragettes who trained in jujitsu known as the bodyguard.
The first three D.N.W. films (Chapters 1-3) were screened at Home Cinema Manchester as part of the Women in Global Cinema Series. As the films picked up attention on social media, Di and Mandy were awarded funding to produce, film, and edit a third D.N.W. short film (Suffrajitsu) which was commissioned by cultural producer and musician Bishi as part of the WITCiH festival funded by Arts Council England. The D.N.W. films were screened as part of Sensoria Film Festival 2021.
