HUMAN HARP

Omaha, USA

As part of a residency at Bemis Centre, Omaha US, Di collaborated with residents to develop two Human Harp performances.

Commission

Di spent September and October 2014 in residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha where she developed ways to play the Bob Kerrey Suspension bridge like a giant harp.

Film & performances

Di collaborated with local musicians, dancers and engineers to test innovative ways to play the bridge. Omaha based sound artist Dereck Higgins composed a score made from bridge sounds collected by Di and Dereck during her residency. Di also collaborated with two local dancers to create a Human Harp performance at the Bemis Centre.

“I worked with community members in the Omaha area to understand how the bridge might be played and how the bridge resembles a giant string instrument collaborating with structural engineers dancers musicians physicists and opera singers. This experience was truly inspiring with each new collaborator providing crucial information relating to the physics and movement of the bridge and the voice of the structure.
